The World Wide Web (WWW) was invented by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, a British computer scientist, in 1989. He developed the foundational concepts and technologies that underlie the World Wide Web while working at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) in Switzerland. Tim Berners-Lee wrote the first web browser and editor, created the first website, and defined the fundamental protocols and languages (such as HTTP, HTML, and URLs) that form the basis of the World Wide Web.
